Valentines Day 2013

I just LOVE Valentines Day! I never really liked the holiday until I got married and had kids to celebrate it with. I am glad that I don't have to sit alone and cry into my bucket of ice cream while watching a romantic chick flick anymore (actually I do that all the time). I enjoy spoiling my family on holidays and this year was no exception. I found some cute mailboxes in the dollar section at Target and filled them with goodies the night before. I also heart attacked their bedroom doors and wrote fun stuff on the hearts. This year I even decided to share the love and helped the kids make homemade valentines for their classes. Aubrey made really cute mustache valentines, Isaac made Star Wars with glow sticks, and Maddie made super hero suckers. Valentines Day morning I even got myself out of bed early and made cute homemade heart pancakes. Doesn't this post make you want to go out and hug someone. :)

100th Day of School!

Yesterday, February 13th, was the 100th day of school!! Maddie was told to make a hat with 100 items glued on it and also bring in a bag containing 100 items. She has been so excited and wanted to make her hat two weeks ago when she was given the assignment (we didn't actually didn't get around to making it until a few days ago). Of course Maddie wanted a princess hat with 100 jewels all over it. We also made some fun flowers out of tissue paper. She got to walk in a parade and had so much fun she was jumping all over the house for hours after school. :)

National Harbor

After the Chidren's Museum we walked down to the waterfront to explore. There was this small sand area where the kids played and climbed on a huge buried giant ("The Awakening" is a five piece cast iron sculpture depicting the arousing of a bearded giant with a head, hand, outstreached arm, bent knee and foot arranged to suggest that the giant is breaking free from the earth"). I couldn't resist looking it up. :) I am glad it was such a nice warm day. We then ate lunch at a hot dog place (and sandwich place), ate cupcakes from CakeLove, and explored Peeps and Company where we had Mike and Ike samples.

Washington Harbor Children's Museum

The kids had a day off of school a few weeks ago (teacher work day) so we decided to go check out the Children's Museum in DC. When we first got there and saw how small it was I was a little disappointed (it cost $60). After being there for a little while the kids found so many things to do because they were encouraged to use their imaginations instead of a computer. The museum has craft rooms where we made hand print pictures and paper beads. The kids pretended they were pizza makers, firemen, chefs, construction workers, car drivers, cashiers, shoppers, and lots more. They had fun in the room with all the puppets and dress-up clothes. My favorite was when Lucas put on the HUGE boots and tried to walk. This museum wasn't nearly as big as the one in Salt Lake (or as cheap), but the kids and even adults had fun. Nick was excited to see Big Bird and give Elmo a kiss!
